Naturally being a coastal region, seafood features prominently on the Krabi menu. Traditional southern Thai food includes the milder coconut-milk based curries popularly associated with the whole of Thailand: Sample the dry, Malaysian-influenced Panaeng curry and the Massaman (Muslim) curry that includes potatoes and nuts. Tourism has also brought migrants from other parts of Thailand, who brought their food and cooking traditions with them. Surin City was formerly known as Mueang Thi Village, but was renamed in honor of the provincial governor, Luang Surin Phakdi, appointed by H.M. King Rama I. The city was renamed in 1786, and is the provincial capital. The arrival of the railroad in 1922 ended the relative isolation of Surin from the rest of the country, and opened up this wonderful province for exploration. All the best things to see and do throughout Krabi province and its many islands are provided by the natural flora and fauna. You can get about by Songthaew (public passenger pick-up vehicles) or by boat, and just about every outdoor seaside activity is represented in abundance. The most common boat type for shorter trips is the long-tail boat. They are very manoeuvrable in the shallow waters but be prepared to get wet even if the water is a little choppy. Getting to Phuket

Getting to Phuket

In order to get to Phuket you would need to ride 14 hours on air-conditioned buses between Phuket and Bangkok (Cheapest tickets are from Bangkok’s Khaosan Road). The easier way would be to go by Thai Airways or AirAsia, which would take only 1 hour and 10 minutes. The flights go out of Bangkok roughly five times a day. There is no rail service to Phuket.
