The Merlion of Singapore

The Merlion is a mythical creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. It’s used as the mascot and national personification of Singapore.

The lion’s head represents Singapore’s original name “Singapura” meaning Lion City or Kota Singa whilst the fish body represents Singapore’s origin as a fishing village. Located on the front of Marina Bay just off the Fullerton Bridge, the Merlion is a popular spot for tourists and worth a stop for the standard tourist photo opportunity. There are a number of nice bars and restaurants along the promenade once you’ve snapped your photos.
