Getting around in Windhoek

No official public transport serves the city of Windhoek, but there is nothing to worry about. The city centre, where most attractions and international hotels are located, is easily accessible on foot.

Shared taxis actually replace city buses. Shared taxis in Windhoek don’t have strictly pre-arranged routes, meaning you can flag down any shared taxi and tell the driver where you are heading. If your destination is quite far away from the current route you may be asked to disembark and wait for another vehicle. Privet taxis are also available in the city, but it may be hard to impossible to get one on the street, so you need to book one over the phone. Most privet taxis feature meters, but fixed fare deals are also available.
