Introductions to Odense

Located around the centre of Funen Island, Odense is the unofficial capital and its largest city. Being Denmark’s third-largest city, it offers tourists, a mix of the vibrant night life, beautifully landscaped streets, while epitomizing rich cultural heritage. As a 1000-year old capital, this place claims to be the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen.

Several museums and public venues have been dedicated to Hans, including some public benches with monster’ claws for legs. Odense loosely translated as ‘Oden Shrine’, is supposedly blessed by the Nordic Gods of war, wisdom and poetry.

During the 18th century, Odense was Denmark’s largest provincial town that is now linked via a large water canal. The city is now transforming into an important textile and transportation hub.
